In a budget meeting at work today, we were discussing foresight--that is our need to look as far ahead as we can and then act now (well in advance) to, as someone said, “steer our ship” away from future problems. Of course I suggested using this graphic to help set-up what I thought was an otherwise good analogy. Then thought better of it. Perhaps the Titanic isn’t a good illustration of any organization's situation. But there are no other examples. After all, you never hear the names of ships that steer clear of obstacles. They just keep going.
In order to reach common ground, two people--or communities--must be willing to open their minds and walk purposefully toward the space between them. It is my hope that we can learn to focus on what unites us, rather than what divides us, and find common ground. These are my personal thoughts on that journey. I welcome your feedback and suggestions.

Iceberg! Right ahead!
